1.
I have stressful
memories of previously
painful dental
experiences, so I worry
about, or delay dental
work.
How can I just
‘feel relaxed’ when I
have to see a dentist
now?
There are many thoughts
to think which can
assist you in physically
relaxing.
When you
physically relax, your
brain produces chemicals
which help you to feel
better, and more
relaxed.
In Relaxed Dental
Visits audios there are
many suggestions for you
to consider which
demonstrate ways to
magnify your natural
relaxation responses, no
matter where you are.
By choosing to
participate in focusing
only on relaxation and
other helpful ideas, you
can begin feeling better
right away, while in the
dental chair.
Feeling
relaxation helps you in
making new and more
helpful dental memories,
so dental work becomes
easier
and easier for
you.
2.
Is self-hypnosis
like stage hypnosis?
Will I be under
someone’s control?
Could I remain
stuck in a hypnotic
state?
Stage hypnosis is
usually for
entertainment purposes.
Self-hypnosis
involves
choosing to think
about and experience
specific thoughts in a
helpful and safe manner.
In self-hypnosis
YOU choose to direct your thoughts for your own benefit, enjoyment
or relaxation.
Your self-hypnosis is
directed by you. When you hear
suggestions for
relaxation, you can
choose to follow those
suggestions, or let them
pass by.
You are
always in
control of yourself and
your actions.
No, it is not possible
to become 'stuck' in a
hypnotic state.
You remove yourself from
a self-hypnotic state as soon as you open your
eyes and choose to
consciously focus on anything
other than maintaining
self-hypnosis.
Examples which focus
your concentration
away from
self-hypnosis are:
-
consciously
focusing on looking
at any
details of
the room you are in.
-
consciously focusing on thoughts of
moving away from the
dental chair.
-
consciously thinking about the
things you need to do
next, now that your
appointment is
complete.
3.
How can you ‘make
me’ relax when I really
feel afraid?
No one can ‘make you’
relax if you choose to
focus only on feeling
fearful or anxious.
You are in charge
of you.
However, if you
allow yourself to think
thoughts that lead
toward increasing
relaxation, your body
and mind will help to
magnify the beneficially
relaxing thoughts
(including stories and
visualizations) heard
by, or suggested to you.
You always choose how
you respond to your
thoughts, so if you
begin by focusing on
thoughts which feel good
to you, responding with
good feelings is
naturally much easier to
do.
4.
I keep my dental
appointments, and I’m
only a little nervous.
What benefit will
I get out of listening
to relaxation audios?
The Relaxed Dental
Visits audios include
specific steps to
increase your relaxation
levels, and aside from
the stories and
visualizations, include
a review of your natural
relaxation talents and
abilities.
You might surprise
yourself regarding how
much better and in
control you feel, when
you know how to CHOOSE
feeling relaxed at will.
Feeling relaxation is a naturally learned skill, like the sense of
balance required for
riding a bike; a skill
which can be improved
upon with practise.
We all have to
deal with some stressful
situations in our
working, family and
personal lives.
So learning how to
reduce stress by
choosing to feel relaxed
at will, helps you in the
dental office, and in
your daily life, as
well.
